At Lean On Foundation, we believe that climate action must be more than policies and projects. It must be people-centered, inclusive, and locally owned. This belief is what gave birth to EQUICAS (Equitable Climate Action Solutions), an initiative aimed at enhancing equitable access to climate action opportunities and redefining what climate leadership looks like in communities like ours.

EQUICAS reimagines climate action by grounding it in the lived realities, interests and the creativity of local people. It asks a simple but powerful question: What would climate action look like if it truly belonged to the people it seeks to serve?
Through this lens, EQUICAS empowers communities to take ownership of their environmental future by connecting climate action to what already matters to them, their art, their technology, and their daily lives.

To make this vision tangible, EQUICAS is anchored on three key streams:

1. Art in Climate Action: Art has always been a mirror of society and a catalyst for change. This stream uses visual arts, music, storytelling, and performance to translate complex climate issues into relatable experiences. It transforms climate awareness into emotional connection, helping communities feel the urgency and beauty of climate responsibility.
2. Tech in Climate Action: Technology offers the tools to innovate, connect, and scale solutions. Through this stream, EQUICAS supports the creation and use of digital platforms, data tools, and community-based innovations that strengthen local capacity for climate adaptation and resilience. It bridges the gap between climate science and everyday solutions, ensuring no one is left behind in the digital transition.
3. Climate Action in Action: This is where ideas meet the ground. It focuses on tangible, community-driven projects such as tree planting, clean energy pilots, and local conservation efforts that embody what climate action looks like in practice. It’s about demonstrating that real change begins when communities lead and others lean in to support.

These three streams are especially vital in countries like Zambia, where the effects of climate change are deeply intertwined with social and economic realities. By weaving together art, technology, and local action, EQUICAS ensures that climate action is not a foreign concept but a relatable, participatory, and transformative movement rooted in the strengths, voices and aspirations of the people.
